A sash window is made up of, one or more, movable frames or ‘sashes’ that contain panes of glass, and if separated from other panes (traditionally known as ‘lights’) within the frame, the narrow strips of wood that hold the glass onto the frame is called a ‘muntin’.

The term ‘sash window’ is almost exclusive to windows where the glass panels are opened by sliding up and down, and the reason the windows travel up and down is because counter-balancing weights are enclosed and concealed in a case at the sides of the window.

If you’re looking for traditional sash windows which are double glazed, but do not want uPVC ones, then, as we only create sash windows in quality timber, we are perfectly able to double or triple glaze them, and can also install security window locks, if that is what you wish for.

We can also fit new, bespoke, casements into the original boxes, if that is what is required, and will look exactly like the originals; the only difference will be the high quality timber that they will be made from.
